Each year Hunter's Handbook offers a drawing for three students and a parent and two instructors to win what is termed "The Heritage Hunt." There are thousands of entries annually. Focus Group covers 100% of the costs from airfare to taxidermy for successful hunters. For the past several years the hunt has been held at the Hixon Ranch in Cotulla, Texas. "They have truly been incredible partners", stated Thurston. "They provide lodging, food, guiding, and a real quality hunt." We are also very fortunate to have the support of CarecoTV. President Wade Middleton and his crew are there every year videoing a segment that airs several times on Americana Outdoors. We are also fortunate to have many corporate sponsors that get behind our efforts and ensure that these hunters are provided with a lot of great product. IHEA-USA wants to thank this year's sponsors Cabela's, Otis, Federal Ammunition, Lansky, Milwaukee Tool, Vortex Optics, EZ Gutter, YETI, Birchwood Casey, LaCrosse Boots, and Buck Knives. Each winner was provided products from these great companies to help make the winner's hunt even more enjoyable and successful!
"Education is a key factor in preserving our hunting heritage," stated Brian Thurston, publisher and owner of Focus Group Inc. For the past 26 years the company has published the Official Student and Instructor Magazines of the International Hunter Education Association (IHEA-USA). The student publication is Hunter's Handbook, which is distributed to more than 600,000 new hunters annually that take a state-mandated hunter education course. The instructor publication is the Hunter and Shooting Sports Education Journal and is distributed to more than 55,000 volunteer instructors throughout North America.
